A Counsellor's Perspective of Spiritual Counselling: A Case Study

Flow Counselling Coaching

The unrelenting pressures of our hectic lifestyles often impacts on the natural flow of our being. This in turn affects our intuition and creates negative thoughts that make us believe we are not achieving unless we are dealing with some kind of struggle.

Amanda Friel, 45, from Paddock Wood, Kent, was caught in such a negative spiral that her life became a chore she had to plough her way through. It wasn’t until the former housing officer became ill, in 2007, that she finally took charge of the way she was living her life.

“I was ill, with a succession of illnesses over a 6 month period, and this turned out to be a blessing because it enabled me to really examine the way my life had become unravelled, I wasn’t living in the flow and this was impacting on my health and wellbeing and it needed to stop.”

Grounding Awareness

Amanda had been interested in self-development and spirituality since her early thirties and had explored many modalities and techniques, so she had a good grounding and knowledge of how counselling can create positive ripples through many areas of an individual’s life.

“What got me excited was Flow Coaching. This spiritual technique helps you assess where you are in life and where you really want to be. It helps you identify your talents and gifts and with those you learn to see the bigger picture.”

Energy Shift

Amanda participated in several workshops and trained as a facilitator in 2008. It was during a Flow workshop that she experienced a huge surge of energy that vibrated through her entire body. This opened up her spiritual awareness and inspired her to work with people in a supportive capacity. By the start of 2009 she was ready to hand in her notice at work and began offering one-to-one Flow Coaching to clients who seek a better quality of life. This career change not only enabled Amanda to become more spiritually evolved but also more willing to share her natural gifts and skills with others.

“Whilst facilitating sessions for clients I have also discovered that my gifts have expanded and I have healed many of my own personal issues. The work I do enables people to get a much clearer view on their values and beliefs and it has helped me define my own self-image and self-worth.”

In the Flow

Flow Coaching is a heart-centred combination of practical coaching, spiritual awareness and NLP techniques. It is an ideal form of counselling/coaching for individuals who seek a more holistic approach to counselling and want to connect to higher values and vision.

“The work that I now do is far more empowering than assisting people with their queries whilst sitting behind a desk. My work helps people remove the layers that they have that cover their inner gifts, and this helps them express their true self. We all hold on to many subconscious fears, and resistance, that limit our self-expression and acceptance and impact on health and wellbeing. My role is to help others identify their path of least resistance.”
